Investigation of Oxidation Resistance of Carbon Based First-Wall Liner Material Aerolor AO5
Krüssenberg, A.-K.; Moormann, R.; Hinssen, H.-K.; Hofmann, M.; Wu, C. H.
Abstract
Minimizing the consequences of loss of vacuum and loss of coolant into vacuum accidents with respect to fusion reactor design requires the choice of materials as oxidation resistant as possible. In continuation to the testing of carbon candidate materials under oxidizing conditions (oxygen and steam) in collaboration with NET the carbon compound Aerolor AO5 of Carbone Lorraine has been examined in detail in the test facilities INDEX 2 and SPALEX at Forschungszentrum Jülich. The parameters for these oxidation experiments in the in-pore diffusion controlled regime are temperature (from 973 K up to 1173 K for oxygen, from 1173 K up to 1423 K for steam) and reaction gas concentration (1 vol.-% - 20 vol.% oxygen in argon, 5 vol.% - 100 vol.% steam in argon). The deducted equations for the primary oxidation reactions consider the dependence of the reaction rate on temperature, partial pressure and burn-off of the material.

Studies of Liquid-Gaseous Two-Phase Systems by Positron Emitting Radiotracers
Hensel, F.
Abstract
For a more detailed knowledge and understanding of various industrial processes an in-situ visualization is required. Positron Emission Tomography is an imaging technique used in medical research as a tool to study brain and heart diseases, allowing a non-invasive in-vivo concentration measurement of labeled substances. The mentioned features got us to carry out feasibility investigations for PET-like radiotracer applications in the field of two-phase flow systems. The main aim was to observe mixing and flow phenomena in efficient spatial and time resolution.
Typical values for the stopping ranges of positrons produced by common PET isotopes in water are approximately 2mm. Typical densities of the liquid-gaseous two phase systems that were to investigate are below 10% of the density of water under normal conditions. So the positron range effect becomes very important. Therefore as a first step the spatial annihilation distribution of a solid positron source has been measured using a Ti-45 source and solid blocks of polystyrene and polyurethane foam. The experiments have been carried out using a double head spherical PET-scanner for treatment plan verification of 3D conformable radiation therapy [1]. The foam density amounted from 15 kg/m3 to 38 kg/m3. The feasibility of a range based density measuring technique using the positron range was successfully shown. The next steps in this field could be the setup of a density measurement system for foams, including a detector optimization that results in an easy to handle low cost experimental assembly. It should comprise an encapsulated positron source and 2-4 pairs of detectors to cover an enlarged density range.
Liquid positron emitting tracers were used for monitoring phenomena in bubbly flows. PET experiments often require high activities and quite long integration times for an image reconstruction. Due to activity limitations it has been tried to optimize the experimental setup. Good results were achieved using a nearly two-dimensional geometry in combination with a midplane backprojection. In the experiments mixing processes in bubbly flows were observed using a F-18 solution. The bubbly flows were created by air injection. The event data were collected in list mode. The time resolution for these experiments was below 1s (integration time for the data evaluation). Best choice was a time step value of 500ms. In a further experiment the drainage of a surfactant stabilized foam was investigated.
Transport processes in bubbly flows and foams seem to be adequate topics for investigation using a PET technique. Time resolutions of about 1 s and below can be achieved, depending on the problem. The main advantage of PET tracers is the fact that many organic substances can be labeled with positron emitting isotopes which is important for the component sensitive investigation of many industrial processes.

Test and Calculation of the Emergency Condenser of the SWR 1000
Schaffrath, A.; Prasser, H.-M.; Hicken, E. F.; Jaegers, H.
Abstract
The Siemens AG is developing the new innovative boiling water reactor
concept SWR1000. New features are the passive safety systems (e.g.
emergency condensers, building condensers, passive pressure pulse
transmitters, gravitydriven core flooding lines).
For the experimental investigation of the emergency condenser effectiveness,
the NOKO test facility has been constructed at the Forschungszentrum Jülich
in cooperation with Siemens. This test facility has an operating pressure of
10 MPa and a maximum power of 4 MW for steam production. The emergency
condenser bundle consists of eight tubes and is fabricated with planned
geometry and material of the SWR1000. In more than 200 experiments, the
emergency condenser capacity was tested as a function of pressure, water
level and concentration of noncondensables in the pressure vessel as well
of pressure, water level and temperature in the condenser.
Post test calculations of NOKO experiments were performed with an improved
version of ATHLET. To calculate the heat transfer coefficients during
condensation in horizontal tubes the module KONWAR has been developed
and implemented in ATHLET. KONWAR is based on the flow regime map of
Tandon and includes several semiempirical correlations for the determination
of the heat transfer coefficients. The comparison between calculations and
experiments shows a good agreement.

Modelling of boron nitride: atomic scale simulations on thin film growth
Albe, K.; Möller, W.
Abstract
Molecular-dynamics simulations on ion-beam deposition
of boron nitride are presented. A realistic Tersoff-like potential energy
function for boron nitride, which was specially fitted to ab initio-data,
has been used. The impact of energetic boron and nitrogen atoms on a c-BN
target is simulated with energies ranging from 10 to 600 eV. The structural
analysis of the grown films shows, that a loose, dominantly sp2-bonded
structure arises at high ion flux. In no case the formation of a sp3-bonded
phase is observed, but the obtained films partially reveal textured basal
planes as found in experiment. Two different growth regimes are identified
for ion energies above and below 100 eV.

Strömungsformen bei Kondensationsvorgängen im Notkondensator-Versuchsstand
Prasser, H.-M.; Böttger, A.; Schaffrath, A.
Abstract

Analysis of deuterium induced nuclear reactions giving criteria for the formation process of expanded austenite
Parascandola, S.; Günzel, R.; Grötzschel, R.; Richter, E.; Möller, W.
Abstract
High current ion nitriding of austenitic stainless steel at temperatures of about 400°C leads to the formation of a surface layer, called expanded austenite. The formation of this layer is not well understood. Deuterium induced nuclear reaction analyses have been performed on austenitic stainless steel samples that were subsequently high current ion nitrided with low energy ion implantation of 15 N and 14 N. The obtained depth profiles yield criteria for the formation process of the expanded austenite. A trapping mechanism cannot be confirmed.

The Chiral Quark-Loop Soliton in a Hot Gas of Constituent Quarks
Schleif, M.; Wünsch, R.
Abstract
Abstract
We consider a chiral one-loop hedgehog soliton of the bosonized SU(2)f Nambu & Jona-Lasinio model which is embedded in a liot medium of constituent quarks. Energy and radius of the soliton are determined in self-consistent mean-field approximation. Quasi-classical corrections to the soliton energy are derived by means of the pushing and cranking approaches. The corresponding inertial parameters are evaluated. It is shown that the inertial mass is equivalent to the total internal energy of the soliton. Corrected nucleon and ∆ isobar masses are calculated in dependence on temperature and density of the medium. As a result of the internal structure of the soliton which is controlled by the self-consistent mean field, the scaling between constituent quark mass and soliton mass is noticeable disturbed.

N.C.A.11C-Labelling of Benzenoid Compounds in Ring Positions: [11C]Anisole Derivatives
Mäding, P.; Steinbach, J.; Johannsen, B.
Abstract
The synthesis route to n.c.a. 3-nitro-[3-C-11]anisole (3) by use of the principle of synchronous six-electron cyclization of hexatriene systems into aromatics is described and discussed. Nitro-[C-11]-methane (1) reacts with the prepared precursor 5-dimethylamino-2-methoxy-penta-2,4-dienylidene-1-dimethylammonium tetrafluoroborate (2b) in the presence of BuLi to form 1-dimethylamino-4-methoxy-6-nitro-[6-C-11]hexatriene (IA, IB), followed by cyclization/ aromatization into 3. Starting from 1, 3-nitro-[3-C-11]anisole of a radiochemical purity of about 65 % and a mean specific radioactivity of 1 Ci/mu mol was obtained within 10 min. Related to [C-11]CH3NO2, the reproducible radiochemical yield of 3 (decay-corrected) was 60+/-5 %. Reduction of 3 by heating the above reaction mixture with aqueous Na2S gave 3-amino-[3-C-11]anisole (4) of a radiochemical purity of about 50 %. The reproducible radiochemical yield of 4 (decay-corrected) in relation to 1 was 45+/-5 %, the synthesis time from 1 was 16 min.

Recriticality Calculations for Uraniumdioxide-Water Systems with MCNP
Kumpf, H.
Abstract
With the aim of generating a certain feeling for the general dependencies of the multiplication factor k∞ the first section provides some results for two classes of deformations of the original fuel pins. The main part examines UO2-structures of increasing disorder, beginning with the hexagonal close package of fuel spheres and ending up with stochastic geometries. Among these structures the worst case, i.e. the one with the highest k∞ but preserving mechanical stability is identified. The composition and geometric parameter of this case is used to calculate the critical thickness of a slab and critical radius of a sphere.

Abstract
Abstract
The 4 π - fragment - spectrometer FOBOS developed for heavy-ion research at beam energies of 10 - 100 AMeV has been commissioned for physical experiments at the Flerov Laboratory of Nuclear Reactions of the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research in Dubna. Based on the logarithmic detector principle, it is able to register charged fragments from Protons up to heavy residual nuclei in a large dynamical range. Position-sensitive avalanche counters, axial ionization chambers and CsI(TI) scintillation detectors are arranged in three concentric detector shells. An array of phoswich detectors is used as a more granular forward detector at narrow polar angles. The modular concept of FOBOS allows for different experimental application in the field of exclusive fragment spectroscopy at medium multiplicities. For illustration the fragment spectroscopy studies concerning the spontaneous fission process and the fragmentation of hot nuclei by means of the FOBOS set-up are considered.

Windenergiepotential in Sachsen
Hirsch, W.; Rindelhardt, U.
Abstract
The wind energy ressources of Saxony, a typical interior state of Germany, have been estimated based on a special wind measuring programme. It was performed between 1991 and 1995. The main problem in applying the wind atlas method was to determine the areas with the same wind climate and the corresponding data sets (atlas stations). After defining the atlas stations ressource file calculations were performed over about 60 % of the saxon territory. The technical potential of wind energy in Saxony was estimated to be 5 TWh p.a. First results from saxon WEC`s confirm the results.

Ion implantation and annealing effects in silicon carbide
Heera, V.; Skorupa, W.
Abstract
SiC is a promising semiconductor material for high-power/high-frequency
and high-temperature electronic applications. For selective doping of SiC
ion implantation is the only possible process. However, relatively little
is known about ion implantation and annealing effects in SiC. Compared
to ion implantation into Si there is a number of specific features which
have to be considered for successful ion beam processing of SiC. A brief
review is given on some aspects of ion implantation in and annealing of
SiC. The ion implantation effects in SiC are discussed in direct comparison
to Si. The following issues are addressed: ion ranges, radiation damage,
amorphization, high temperature implantation, ion beam induced crystallization
and surface erosion.

Quantum-sized silicon precipitates in silicon-implanted and pulse-annealed silicon dioxide films: Photoluminescence and structural transformations

Abstract
Strong blue, red an near-infrared photoluminescence has
been observed from Si+-implanted and pulse annealed SiO2 layers. Raman
scattering and high-resolution electron microscopy analyses have revealed
a correlation between the structure of the Si inclusions in the SiO2 layers
during pulse and furnace annealing have been discussed in terms of the
changes in the light emission ovserved experimentally. Small Si clusters,
non-crystallineinclusions and nanocrystals are believed to be the light
sources. The blue, red and near-infrared photoluminescence is associated
with small complexes of excess Si atoms, non-crystalline Si nanoinclusters
and quantum-confined Si nanocrystals, respectively.

Verfahren der Ionenstrahlbearbeitung und ihre Anwendung bei Umformwerkzeugen
Richter, E.
Abstract

Formation of buried layers of (SiC)1-x(AlN)x in 6H-SiC using ion-beam synthesis
Yankov, R. A.; Hatzopoulos, N.; Fukarek, W.; Voelskow, M.; Heera, V.; Pezoldt, J.; Skorupa, W.
Abstract
Solid solutions of SiC and III-V compound semiconductors
are recognized as promising materials for novel semiconductor applications.
This paper reports on experiments which explore the possibility of synthesizing
thin buried layers of (SiC)1-x(AlN)x having composition of about x = 0.2
by co-implanting N+ and Al+ ions into 6H-SiC-wafers maintained at temperatures
in the range 200 - 800 C. Structural and compositional evaluation of as-implanted
samples was carried out using a combination of Rutherford backscattering/channelling
spectrometry and infrared reflectance spectroscopy. It is shown that the
structures are highly sensitive to the substrate temperature. The use of
sufficiently high temperatures (400 - 800 C) enables the crystallinity
of the host material as well as relatively low damage levels to be maintained
during implantation. The formation of Al-N bonds within the implanted layers
is also confirmed over the temperature range studied.

Shape of a Co-Nd Liquid Alloy Ion Source
Hesse, E.; Driesel, W.; Dietzsch, C.; Bischoff, L.; Teichert, J.
Abstract
Co-Nd-liquid alloy ion sources (LAIS) were operated of a special specimen holder in situ in a 1 MeV transmission electron microscope. The dynamics of the tip shape in dependence of the ion emission current, spatial shifts of the liquid cone and the process of double cone formation have been observed. This results in a bette understanding of the ion emission processes from Co-Nd-LAISs in a large range of ion current. A linear dependence of the decrease of the cone half angle and of the jet lenght l and of the diameter d on the increased ion emission current was found. No emission of microdroplets at the shanks of the Taylor cone and behind the cone has been detected.

Fabrication of MSM detector structures on silicon by focused ion beam implantation
Teichert, J.; Bischoff, L.; Hausmann, S.
Abstract
We report the fabrication of metal-semiconductor-metal
(MSM) photo detectors on silicon substrates with CoSi2 electrodes. The
electrode patterns have been formed by ion beam synthesis applying maskless
implantation with a cobalt focused ion beam. Implantation has been carried
out with the substrate at room temperature and at 400 °C.

Evolution of nanocluster ensembler: Computer simulation of diffusion and reaction controlled Ostwald ripening
Strobel, M.; Reiß, S.; Heinig, K.-H.
Abstract
The Ion Beam Synthesis (IBS) of nanoclusters can be controlled by the flux and the fluence of ions as well as by the implantation and/or annealing temperature. The evolution of the precipitates, mainly described by their particle radius distribution (PRD), the number of remaining particles and the critical radius, depends on these parameters. However, the evolution is expected to behave different for systems like SiO2 and CoSi2 clusters in Si, because they are characterized by quite different ratios of diffusion to reaction constants. Here we present an unified model of Ostwald ripening of nanoclusters, which describes the pure diffusion and reaction controlled limits as well as all intermediate, mixed processes. Expressing the exact solution of the adiabatic diffusion equation by multipole moments we derive the governing equation for the evolution of an ensemble of nanoclusters in the leading monopole approximation. Whereas in the diffusion controlled regime we have the well known infinite range 1/r interaction among the nanoclusters, 1/r2 interactions come into play in the reaction limited regime. Computer simulations for ensembles of several thousands of nanoclusters demonstrate the evolution for typical cases.

Mathematisch-numerische Modellierung der Ultraschallstreuung an oberflächenverbundenen Rissen mit dem EFIT-Code

Abstract
Abstract
An ultrasonic time-of-flight diffraction method for measuring stable crack growth in a three point bending specimen was analyzed by simulations of the wave field evolution in the test specimen. To calculate the actual crack length from the experimental measured time of flight of a crack tip diffracted ultrasound pulse the echo trains were successively measured during the whole bending test. The simulations deal with the generation and evolution of the ultrasound field in the specimen and with the design of the received signal. The simulations took into account the actual test geometry, the crack growth process, the blunted crack tip and the process of bending. With these simulations all individual received echoes are reproduced and interpreted. The echo, qualified for measuring the time of flight is undoubtedly the transverse wave diffracted on the crack tip. In order to optimize the test method and to increase the accuracy of measurements during the simulations Parameters like probe position, wave mode, measuring frequency and length of aperture of the probes wem separately varied. From the comparison between the simulations and the experimental measurements it can be concluded, that the developed method is weil suited for measuring stable crack growth in small specimens made from ductile material.
